This hack for smuggling snacks into a movie theater is pure genius

If you’re planning on hitting up the theater as a family this holiday season, there’s plenty of opportunity to get in that movie fix. Whether it’s Coco, The Star or Wonder for the kiddos, or A Bad Moms Christmas for a girls’ night out, really, you can’t go wrong. And if you’re anything like me, that means skipping the overpriced popcorn and sneaking in your own snacks.

One woman has taken the concept of movie theater snack smuggling to the next level with a genius hack. Trust me, you’re definitely going to want to try it out yourself. “Thought of a new way to bring more snacks into the movies,” Jessica Ruiz Gonzalez wrote on Facebook on Nov. 14. “And if y’all try it I’d love to see videos or pictures.”

1) Find a JoAnn’s fabric and craft store.

2) Locate the styrofoam section and pick out the one that looks like a bowl.

3) Fill with tons of candy and other snacks. Heck, you could fit an entire meal in there if you wanted. (And keep it warm/cold!)

4) Carefully place everything under an oversized hoodie and viola — a pregnant woman. AKA, the perfect disguise for smuggling theater snacks. Looks pretty legit to me.

Ruiz Gonzalez’s post has attracted more than 12,000 likes and over 194,000 shares in just one week — so clearly, she’s onto something.

“The main idea occurred because I was doing some baby shower shopping with my sister and mom, and I saw the styrofoam bowl,” Ruiz Gonzalez told BabyCenter. “I put it on so I could take a picture to look like my sister and in that moment, my mom was like, ‘You do look pregnant.’ And magically I was like, ‘OMG,  I could totally fill this with food and get in anywhere, especially the movies.’ It was just all a joke, but eventually I posted it just for a laugh. But as you can tell, the majority of the people enjoyed this idea.”

My family tries to cut costs at every corner, and the movie theater is no exception. Although we sometimes spring for a small bag of popcorn to share, we always bring our own drinks and candy. (Those boxes of candy from the dollar store are the best.) I simply stuff it all my purse or in the diaper bag. That way, we don’t end up wasting an extra 30 bucks on overpriced theater junk.

Of course, if you’re actually pregnant, you’ll have to find another way to sneak in your snacks. But for the rest of us, this movie theater hack is just too perfect. I really want to hear from someone who has tried it!

What do you think of this snack hack? How do you sneak snacks into the movie theater?
