It’s official, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have welcomed a baby girl named Chicago!
Surprised by their name pick? I am, because not all that long ago Kim shared her personal baby name rules and this pick goes against them all.
To review, Kim said this in November of 2017 while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show: “I do like different names, but like short, easy-to-spell, one-syllable — that’s kind of my vibe.”
Here’s the Chicago breakdown…Short? Not particularly. Easy to spell? Maybe only because it’s a well-known city. One-syllable? Not even close!
That being said, baby girl’s nickname does fit all of those requirements. As explained by excited aunt (and mom-to-be) Khloe Kardashian:
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE her name
hey Chi (shy) https://t.co/Ikd0ay3DsO

Chi (pronounced “shy” as Khloe notes) jams well with North and Saint, don’t you think?

Of course people have their opinions. A quick look at replies to Kim’s name announcement tweet include jabs such as, “Just don’t think a name should sound like a neighborhood listed on a free map, “They should call her Windy West. (Cause it’s the Windy City), and “rich people are so exhausting.”
Meanwhile, NBC (which has a string of Chicago-based shows) is having a field day.
All I can say is go ahead and make the jokes, folks. Kim and Kanye have proven they don’t give a hoot what we all think and will keep on doing whatever they want to do.
Welcome to the world, Chi!
