A Bride’s Guide To Preparing For, or Incorporating, Winter in Your Wedding

A Bride’s Guide To Preparing For, or Incorporating, Winter in Your Wedding

Don’t let the winter weather freeze you out—there are plenty of ways to prepare for frigid temperatures. Or if the cold isn’t a problem, there are plenty of ways to add some winter wonderland to your wedding day. Below, find how brides kept warm in the winter or embraced the ice.

Warm Regards

Let these real brides, grooms, and attendants inspire your winter wedding attire.

  1. Knowing her Palm Springs, California, wedding destination could get chilly on December evenings, bride Tori Chieffalo commissioned Nardos dresses with removable fur wraps to keep her best girls warm.

2. When the weather took a turn for the worse the week of her January wedding to Matthew Montierth, bride Elizabeth Hick sourced fur jackets for her flower girls to wear.

3. For her wedding to Parker Freeman, bride Frances Hackney topped her tulle Mark Ingram gown, purchased at Warren Barrón, with an extra (removable) layer. “The capelet truly made it stand out,” she says.

4. For his December I do’s, groom Tucker Dillard donned a velvet Loro Piana jacket, made by Alexandra Woodcock of Billy Reid.

Freeze Frame

Icy conditions ahead! These cool touches will lend a chilling effect to your celebration.

Let It Snow

Bride Alyssa Cywilko wanted an element of surprise at her December 2, 2023, wedding to Michael Leal. “I’m originally from upstate New York, so it was important to me to bring some of that wintry magic to Texas,” she says. She and planner Jess Wegner of Jess Wegner Events put their heads together to come up with a fun way to make the couple’s first dance as husband and wife extra memorable. “We wanted true Hallmark movie vibes, so that meant snow,” says Jess. LeForce Entertainment provided the faux snow—made of soap suds—and got an assist from The Adolphus’ staff, who discretely squeegeed the floor to prepare it for the dance hour.

Chill Out

Hanna Waits and Will Collins wanted a wedding that combined elegance with personal details. The couple’s “Club Collins” theme was felt throughout the reception with several custom elements, including this monogrammed ice luge by Stellar Ice. Not only did it serve a practical function—to chill espresso martinis en route to the glass—it was a key visual element as well, says planner Rielly Kidwell of House of CLRK. “It served as a striking focal point that tied the entire aesthetic together.”

On Ice

A simple way to elevate your drinks is with customized ice cubes, like these used by Kelly Covert and Nick Giordano for their May 11, 2024, wedding at the Dallas Arboretum. Beyond the Box Catering incorporated the couple’s initials on whiskey rocks that were used in Nick’s signature cocktail. “Anyone can make a an old fashioned,” says planner Megan de Farcy of Taylor Event Co. “It is personal elements, like a monogramed ice cube, that leave a lasting impact on guests.”
