This Dallas Arboretum Wedding Embraced All Things Outdoors

Katie Ackels & Trey Freeman
April 19, 2024

Katie Ackels and Trey Freeman have long shared a love of the outdoors, dating back to the pandemic-era walks they’d take together as they were just getting to know one another. So it makes sense that the couple, who met through mutual friends, chose the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden for their spring wedding. Following a ceremony under Crape Myrtle Allee, the newlyweds celebrated at the Alex Camp House, where quince blossom branches echoed the moment they said “I do.” “It was a no-brainer,” says Katie, who notes the aesthetic reminded her family of their college roots in Mobile, Alabama. “There is a street called Avenue of the Oaks, and Crape Myrtle Allee reminded us of the oaks and felt like such a natural fit.”

Getting It Right
In meetings with florists, Katie expressed her desire for a tree-inspired scheme. “They all came back with leafy designs,” she explains. She finally found her creative match in House
of CLRK, who used quince blossom branches to echo the ceremony.

Like a Kid Again
Katie and Trey’s friends often cart their three boys around in this bike. When the couple chose it as their getaway vehicle, the friends decorated
it and escorted the newlyweds out of the venue.

Under the Branches
“Crape Myrtle Allee is such a
magical ceremony backdrop,” remarks Crystal. “It’s long and iconic for a bride to walk down, with its curved branches and trees—which was something we wanted to carry throughout, from paper to reception.”
